The Story Behind the Calligrapher

Hello and welcome! Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to learn a little about this small business and how it came to be! Agape Calligraphy was created and founded by yours truly - Miriam Fanous, Orthodox Christian, wife, mom of 3, avid coffee drinker, and calligrapher, and is based in Orange County, California. I began my career as a pharmacist, but eventually fell in love with the art of pointed pen calligraphy in 2015, when my sister, Monica (Faith and Hand) convinced me to drive 3 hours to take a calligraphy workshop. Since then, I have studied traditional scripts, as well as modern calligraphy, under calligraphers Nina Tran, Younghae Chung (Logos Calligraphy), and Jody Che (MBOJ Studio). I’m also a member of the Society for Calligraphy and IAMPETH (The International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting). When I don’t have my pen dipped in ink, you can find me spending time with my family, at our local farmer’s market, or perusing the aisles of Home Goods. (guilty!)

I named this small business of mine “agape” because the word “agape” is defined as an unconditional love that transcends and persists regardless of circumstance; it is the highest form of love. What better way to express this love to your loved ones, than by transcribing it into beautiful writing - precisely what the word “calligraphy” means!

My motto is a verse that is near and dear to my heart - “Let all that you do be done with love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). I promise to create and design every piece with utmost love, care and respect.
